Terms and privacy

When you share a photo or say how the haze is, the site can ask for your location to work out which area you're in. That check happens on your phone, and your coordinates are never sent or saved.

For a photo, only the area name, like North or Central, is sent. For a haze report (Clear, Hazy or Very hazy), the town you're in, like Tampines, is sent too, so others can see where it's hazy. If you say no to location, you just pick your area yourself, and no town is sent.

Haze reports show for everyone without your name, and are deleted after 3 days. To stop one person flooding them, the site keeps a scrambled code made from your IP address with each report, deleted with it.

• Your phone shrinks the photo. Then my server saves a fresh copy, which removes all hidden data, including GPS, the time it was taken and your phone model.
• Google's Gemini AI checks each photo before it goes up, to make sure it's safe and shows the sky or the city.
• Once approved, anyone can see it, with its area, the hour it was posted and the PSI then. Your name is never shown, because the site doesn't have it.
• Every night at 8pm, AI picks the day's top 3 photos (fewer on a quiet day). Those are kept, with their area, time and PSI, so anyone can watch that day again in Look back. This applies to photos shared from 17 October 2026. They stay until WalaoHaze closes. If one is yours and you want it gone, message me.
• To count posts over time, the site keeps a note for a year that an upload happened, with its area, the time and a scrambled code that changes every day. The note never includes the photo.

Please don't share photos where faces, car plates or home addresses are clear. Once a photo is public, someone could screenshot it.

To stop spam, each connection can share up to 6 photos an hour. To count that, the site keeps a scrambled version of your IP address (a salted hash). It can't be turned back into your real IP.

If you rate WalaoHaze or leave a comment, I keep your score, your comment, your browser type and the same scrambled IP. Please don't put personal details in your comment.

Vercel Web Analytics shows me which pages were opened, and which country, device type and website visits came from. It doesn't follow you to other sites.

The site also notes what you do during a visit and for how long, like swiping to an earlier hour, opening the advice or sharing a photo. That shows me where the site is confusing. With it go your country, device type, browser and the website or app you came from, plus a scrambled code made from your IP address, browser and the date. The code changes every day, so visits on different days can't be linked.

None of it includes your name, your exact location or what you type. It's deleted after 90 days.

• Whether you turned location off
• Whether you've already seen the tips
• When you last visited, so the site can show what's new
• A random number for your current visit, so its steps stay together. It's gone when you close the tab.

Of these, only the visit number is ever sent to me. Clearing your browser data removes them all. WalaoHaze doesn't use cookies.

Each service has its own privacy policy.

Some photos in the feed come from public posts on X or from LTA's traffic cameras. X posts come off WalaoHaze if they're deleted on X.

If a post of yours is shown and you want it taken down, message me.

That's your right under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Since there are no accounts, tell me roughly when you posted and which area, and I'll find it.

Readings come from NEA, and the advice is summarised from NEA and MOH. I do my best to keep it right, but readings can be late, missing or wrong, and a photo only shows one moment in one spot.

Check haze.gov.sg for the official numbers, and see a doctor if you feel unwell.

• It must be a photo you took yourself.
• It must not show anything illegal, offensive or private, or focus on people.
• I can remove any photo at any time, without giving a reason.

That means getting around the photo check or the upload limit, sending floods of requests, or copying the content in bulk. I can block anyone who does.

It might go down or change without notice. As far as the law allows, I'm not responsible for any loss or harm from using it or relying on it.

That includes NEA, MOH, X, LinkedIn and PayLah. If you buy me a coffee, DBS handles the payment, and I only see what PayLah shows me.
